Replit vs Lovable gets most of the attention, yet three more vibe coding tools compete for the same prototype or MVP. Bolt from StackBlitz, v0 from Vercel and Base44, which Wix bought in June 2025, each make different calls on stack, backend, mobile apps, credits and how the code leaves. This guide compares all five from vendor docs and pricing pages read on November 2, 2026, and shows where engineers should take over. We build new products with Lovable and rescue apps made with Lovable, Bolt, v0 and Replit. We partner with none of the five, so weigh our view accordingly.

Quick Answer

Choose Lovable when a founder or product manager wants a web app built from chat, with the code synced to a Git repository. Choose Replit when a developer will code beside the AI agent in one cloud workspace, or the app needs another language or a native mobile app. Choose Bolt for a JavaScript team that wants framework choice or an Expo mobile app, v0 for a Next.js team that wants pull requests and Vercel hosting, and Base44 for an internal tool that can stay on Base44.

Key Takeaways

  • Replit and Bolt build native mobile apps with Expo, Base44 wraps the web app in a web view, and Lovable and v0 build web apps only.
  • Paid plans start at $20 to $30 a month, billed monthly, as read on November 2, 2026, but billing units and what happens at zero vary across the five.
  • Code leaves all five through GitHub or a download, though Base44 needs its Builder plan for either and says its exported code still relies on Base44 to run.
  • Lovable (CVE disputed), Replit and Base44 each had a public flaw or data loss in 2025, and no built in scan or audit replaces a code review.
  • Bring in engineers before real customer data, payments or regulated data arrive, or when the code has to outlive the builder.

Which AI App Builder Fits Your Project

Lovable alternatives are easier to judge by project than by feature list, so start from what you are building.

Web app or MVP from prompts, start with Lovable

  • A founder or product manager drives it from chat
  • Lovable Cloud handles data and sign in

Full stack app you also code in, start with Replit

  • Agent 4 works inside a cloud IDE with a file tree and shell
  • Any language, with separate development and production databases

Native iOS and Android app, start with Bolt or Replit

  • Both generate React Native apps with Expo
  • Base44 wraps its web app for the stores instead

Design to code for a React team, start with v0

  • Next.js, shadcn/ui and Tailwind CSS output
  • GitHub branches and pull requests, deploys on Vercel

Internal tool or business app, start with Base44

  • Database, sign in, email and AI calls built in
  • Best when the app can live on Base44 for good

Replit vs Lovable and the Other Pairs Buyers Search Most

Most shortlists end at two tools.

Replit vs Lovable

Lovable fits a web MVP that a product person owns, and Replit fits a developer coding beside the Agent, a Python backend or a phone app. The deciding question is where your developer works. Lovable keeps the build in chat on a stack it picks, TanStack Start for new apps on Lovable Cloud or your own Supabase, and offers no choice of framework or database. A developer edits the synced code in their own editor. Replit puts Agent 4 and the developer in one cloud IDE with a file tree and shell, runs any language through Nix and builds native mobile apps with Expo.

Base44 vs Lovable

Base44 fits an internal tool that can stay put, and Lovable fits an app whose code may need to leave. Base44 pairs a React front end with a managed NoSQL database and Deno functions, plus built in email, image and LLM calls paid with integration credits. Lovable runs on Postgres and syncs code to your Git provider on every plan. Base44 code export starts on the Builder plan, and the exported code still relies on Base44 to run.

Bolt vs Lovable

Pick Bolt when your team writes JavaScript or needs a phone app. Founders who want one opinionated web stack do better on Lovable. Bolt runs Node.js in your browser through WebContainers, works with any JavaScript framework and builds Expo mobile apps. Bolt Cloud bundles hosting, domains and a database, with Supabase as a choice on Pro and Teams. Bolt says its tokens mostly go to reading and syncing your files, so a large project costs more per message.

Base44 vs Replit

Choose Replit for code an engineer will extend in any language. Base44 suits a back office tool you never expect to move. The deciding question is how production data stays safe while the AI keeps editing. Replit gives published apps separate development and production databases, and its docs say the Agent cannot modify the production database. Base44 offers a separate test database from the Builder plan, says its published app always uses production data, and lists backups only on its Elite, Business and Enterprise plans.

v0 vs Lovable

A React team that already reviews pull requests gets more from v0. Lovable suits a founder who wants the backend handled from chat with no database to pick. v0 now builds full stack Next.js apps that deploy to Vercel. Once a GitHub repository is connected, v0 treats it as the source of truth and ships changes as pull requests. v0, Lovable, Replit, Bolt and Base44 all import Figma designs, so for design to code the output and the review flow decide.

What Each AI App Builder Costs in Credits and Tokens

Entry prices sit close together. Billing units, and what happens at zero, do not.

Table 2. What each builder costs, read November 2, 2026

BuilderFree planFirst paid plan, billed monthlyWhat you spendUnused allowanceWhen it runs out
ReplitDaily Agent credits to a monthly cap, 1 app published for 30 daysCore $20 with $20 of monthly credits, Pro $100Credits, priced by effortCore resets, Pro rolls over 2 monthsCredit pack or pay as you go, Free Mode keeps working
Lovable5 credits a day, up to 30 a monthPro $25 for 100 credits, Business $50Credits, priced by request complexityRolls over, expires 2 months after issueBuilding stops, the backend pauses
Bolt1M tokens a month, 300K a dayPro $25 for 10M tokens, Teams $30 per memberTokens, mostly for reading and syncing filesRolls over, valid 2 monthsUpgrade, or reload on top monthly Pro or any annual Pro
v0$5 of one time credits for new users, 7 messages a dayPlus $30 per user with $30 of creditsCredits at model token ratesRolls over, expires after 65 daysGeneration pauses
Base4425 message and 100 integration credits a month, up to 5 appsStarter $20 for 100 message and 2,000 integration creditsMessage credits to build, integration credits for email, images and LLM callsExpires at each resetCredit actions pause until the reset

Paid Lovable plans start at $25 a month, billed monthly, for 100 credits. Building and running the app share one credit balance, and an empty balance pauses the backend. Our guide to choosing a Lovable backend covers what that pause means for a live app.

Annual billing lowers most prices. Lovable gives two months free, Replit Core drops to $18 a month, Bolt saves up to 28 percent and Base44 saves 20 percent.

A credit buys different amounts of work, too. Lovable lists illustrative Build mode costs from 0.50 credits to make a button gray to 2.00 for a landing page with images. Base44 estimates about 0.5 message credits for a simple change, 3 to 4 for an app wide one and about 1 integration credit per email, and cannot preview integration costs.

Who Owns the Code, the Data and the Backend

Vendors word code ownership differently, so read the last column closely. The data and backend column shows where your data lives once the code leaves.

Table 3. What you can take with you, read November 2, 2026

BuilderCode outData and backendWhat the vendor says
ReplitGit push and pull, ZIP downloadPostgreSQL managed by Replit, apps hosted on ReplitYou retain your rights in content you submit, and AI code may be erroneous or incomplete
LovableTwo way Git sync with GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket, ZIP on paid plansLovable Cloud data leaves through a separate export with its own limitsYour apps, code and content are yours, subject to third party rights
BoltA GitHub commit for each working change, ZIP downloadBolt Database, claimable into your own Supabase on Pro or TeamsAll code you create is your own, including for commercial use
v0Private GitHub repository with pull requests, code exportSupabase, Neon or Upstash accounts provisioned through VercelVercel does not own the generated code, and output may match what other users get
Base44Two way GitHub sync and ZIP export from the Builder planManaged NoSQL database, auth and functions stay on Base44You own your code, your data and your users

Base44 says two things about leaving. Its pricing page says "Nothing is locked to the platform." Its developer docs say "The exported code still relies on Base44 to run, so a ZIP is a copy of your code, not a way to move your app off Base44." Plan as if the docs are right. They also say the GitHub two way sync keeps entities, the data model definitions, in Base44 rather than in your repository.

Security Incidents and the Controls Added Since

Three of the five builders had a public flaw or data loss in 2025. Separately, Okta reported in July 2025 that attackers used v0 to copy real sign in pages for phishing.

Three public incidents to know before you choose

  • Lovable, May 2025. Matt Palmer, then in developer relations at Replit, disclosed CVE-2025-48757. Palmer scanned 1,645 projects from the Lovable public showcase and found 170 of them, roughly 10.3 percent, with inadequate row level security, exposing 303 endpoints in total. Lovable has disputed the CVE, and its position is that customers own the security of their app data. Our Supabase RLS security checklist shows how to test for that gap.
  • Replit, July 2025. Replit Agent deleted data from the production database of an app built by Jason Lemkin of SaaStr. Replit says he restored it with a rollback and lost no data. Replit then split development and production databases, so the Agent cannot change production data.
  • Base44, July 2025. Wiz Research found that anyone could create a verified account on a private Base44 app with only its non secret app ID, bypassing SSO too. Wix fixed it within 24 hours of the July 9 report and found no evidence of abuse.

Lovable now runs an automated security scan when you publish. That scan is a good baseline, and it is not an audit. Replit runs Agent security scans on paid plans and says a scan is not a complete security review. Bolt runs a project security audit of code and database on paid plans, v0 warns about risky NEXT_PUBLIC_ variables, and Base44 scans on all plans while making you responsible for your app security settings.

Where Each Builder Stops and Engineers Start

These documented limits, one or two per builder, mark where an engineer should take over.

  • A backend outside JavaScript. Bolt supports only JavaScript backends, so a Python service lives outside Bolt.
  • A stack other than Next.js. Vercel says v0 can use other frameworks, but Next.js provides the most reliable results.
  • Paid features in a store app. Base44 does not yet support In-App Purchase or Google Play Billing, so its store apps cannot sell digital content.
  • Parallel feature work. Lovable edits and syncs one branch at a time, and Bolt cannot merge branches in the app.
  • Data residency. Replit hosts published apps in the United States, and an EU region is an Enterprise request.
  • Health data. Lovable says it is not HIPAA compliant and signs no Business Associate Agreements, and its terms bar protected health information in apps you build with Lovable unless your plan or a separate written agreement allows it.

Before real users arrive, have someone who reads code confirm each item below. Our post on vibe coding risk in startups explains why each matters.

  • Access rules on every table, tested signed out and from a second account
  • No secret keys in the front end bundle or public environment variables
  • Production data the AI agent cannot change, with a tested restore
  • Code in a repository you control, runnable outside the builder
  • A spend alert on credits, tokens and pay as you go usage
  • The model training setting matched to your data
  • A named person who reviews each AI change before it ships

Where Unico Connect Fits Once the Builder Stalls

Unico Connect builds products on Lovable, Xano, WeWeb and custom code, and helps teams that built on Bolt, v0 or Replit scale into a production grade system once the limits above start to bite. The failure pattern is similar across AI builders, with duplicated code, missing access control, and no tests. We start with a free architecture and security review of your stack, data model and access policies, then apply the same audit and hardening process we run on Lovable apps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which AI app builder suits a non technical founder?

Lovable or Base44, because both pick the stack for you. Lovable offers no choice of framework or database and syncs the code to GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket on every plan, so a developer can take over later. Base44 also bundles the database, sign in and hosting, and fits an internal tool that will stay on Base44.

Which AI app builder is cheapest for a first app?

All five start with a free plan. Replit Core and Base44 Starter start lowest at $20 a month, billed monthly, against $25 for Lovable Pro and Bolt Pro and $30 per user for v0 Plus, as read on November 2, 2026. Base44 code export and app store files need its Builder plan at $50 a month, though, and Replit moves paid Agent work beyond the included credits to pay as you go billing unless you buy a credit pack.

Which AI app builder can publish a native mobile app?

Replit and Bolt, since both generate React Native apps with Expo. Base44 can list its web app in the stores inside a web view wrapper, and Lovable and v0 build web apps only. Replit sends iOS builds to TestFlight, which needs an Apple Developer Program membership, and Bolt ships store builds through the EAS CLI.

Is v0 still only a UI generator?

No. v0 builds full stack web apps. New chats start with a Next.js app using shadcn/ui and Tailwind CSS, databases such as Supabase, Neon and Upstash connect through the Vercel Marketplace, and projects deploy to Vercel. It makes mobile responsive web apps, not native ones.

Who owns Base44, and is it safe to build on?

Wix bought Base44 in June 2025 for about $80 million plus earn out payments through 2029. It is safe enough for an internal tool if someone reviews its security settings before launch, because Base44 docs make you responsible for them. In July 2025 Wiz Research found a flaw that let anyone create a verified account on a private Base44 app, and Wix fixed it within 24 hours with no evidence of abuse.

Can I move a project from one AI app builder to another?

Usually yes for the code, while the backend takes real work. Replit documents GitHub imports of Bolt, Lovable and Base44 projects, Lovable imports a ZIP of code from Replit, Bolt, Base44 or v0, Bolt imports Lovable projects, and Base44 documents migrations from Lovable or Bolt.new. Plan the database, sign in and server functions separately and test before users switch.

Do these builders train AI models on my prompts and code?

Yes on most entry plans, unless you opt out where allowed. Lovable lets Free and Pro users opt out per account and excludes Business and Enterprise by default. Replit lets Pro users opt out and does not train on Enterprise content. Bolt has a model training setting that is on by default for content from October 7, 2026, except for accounts in the EU, UK or Switzerland. v0 opts Business plans out by default, and Base44 excludes Enterprise data.
