The Challenge
StayVista set out to build a category platform in the Indian vacation rental market, which is structurally different from the global Airbnb model. Supply is fragmented across owners who are not full-time hosts, guests expect the polish of a global travel brand, and the operational reality is heavier than the platform model assumes.
A platform that simply matched hosts and guests would not work; it had to absorb enough operational load to make the experience consistent across properties. And with 1,000+ properties planned across 80+ destinations, discovery at scale — surfacing the right property in two or three taps — became a make-or-break problem.
The engagement was a long-running partnership, not a one-time build: web, mobile, host tools, operational tooling and AI recommendations all needed to evolve together as the business scaled.
Our Approach
We engaged as a product partner across the full platform, structured to support continuous scaling rather than a single release, in close coordination with StayVista’s internal product team.
Key decisions:
A stack specialised per surface
Laravel and Node.js with Postgres on AWS; React and Angular for web; React Native for mobile — each surface has different demands, so we let the team specialise around each.
Recommendations from day one
With 1,000+ properties as the target, a static catalogue would not work — the recommendation layer was built in early to learn from guest behaviour and sharpen with data.
Hosts operate their own properties
Hosts manage listings, calendars and pricing without back-office intervention, keeping the platform from becoming a coordination bottleneck as inventory grew.
