The Challenge
ABC Carpet & Home is a category-defining luxury retailer whose in-store experience is rich, slow-paced and immersive in a way the original online store could not match. As retail shifted toward digital discovery, the gap between the in-store and online experience became a strategic problem, not a cosmetic one.
Luxury retail does not behave like commodity e-commerce. Customers spend longer on product pages, expect rich imagery and material detail, and compare across categories before they commit. The platform had to honour that while handling the operational complexity of 200,000+ SKUs across product types as different as a hand-knotted rug and a piece of decorative lighting.
Each product type carries its own attribute model — a rug has dimensions, fibre and weave; furniture has finish, materials and load specs; lighting has wattage and bulb compatibility. The platform had to make all of that searchable and filterable the way customers actually think, while managing inventory and order workflows for a catalogue this deep without overwhelming the merchandising team.
