Key Takeaways

Instant-Ex is a cross-border remittance app that moves money from Europe to African countries via bank deposits and mobile money. Unico Connect built the application on FlutterFlow with Xano, covering multi-corridor remittance flow, mobile money provider integration, real-time transaction tracking and recipient management.

The app completes 85 percent of transfers in under 10 minutes, runs at a 4.2-star rating on Google Play and serves five remittance corridors across Africa.

The Challenge

Cross-border remittance is one of the harder fintech categories to build in: the product has to deliver on customer expectations (trust, speed, transparent pricing) while satisfying regulatory and integration requirements that vary across every corridor.

The customer expectation is unforgiving. Money has to land where the recipient expects it — a specific bank account or mobile money wallet — within minutes, with tracking that lets the sender see it move. Senders are often supporting family across borders, so trust is the entire game; a bad first transfer means they never come back.

01Trust and speed expectations set by global brands
02Compliance and integration vary per corridor
03Mobile money providers each differ (M-Pesa, EcoCash, MTN)
04Time-to-market as important as feature depth

The team needed to be in market quickly to build the brand and customer base, without compromising the architectural cleanliness a regulated fintech product requires. That led to FlutterFlow with a Xano backend — compressing time-to-launch while keeping the data and API layers under engineering discipline.

Our Approach

Instant-Ex corridor integration

We structured the engagement around the FlutterFlow build, the Xano backend, the corridor and mobile money integrations, and the customer-facing tracking experience.

Key decisions:

01.

FlutterFlow for speed, discipline in the API

FlutterFlow handles the mobile surface for fast iteration; Xano holds the data model, corridor integrations and operational state stable underneath.

02.

Per-provider integrations

M-Pesa, EcoCash and MTN were each built to their own specification with a unified internal abstraction — per-provider fidelity with operational consistency.

03.

Tracking as the trust layer

Real-time status from initiation to delivery, with delivery confirmation closing the loop so the sender does not have to message the recipient.

The solution we built

A mobile-first remittance app on FlutterFlow with a Xano backend, designed for speed because senders are completing a transaction they want to close quickly.

Multi-corridor remittance flow

Cameroon, Rwanda, Zambia, Ethiopia and Ghana initially, architected to add corridors without re-platforming.

Mobile money + bank deposit

M-Pesa, EcoCash, MTN and other providers for instant wallet delivery, with bank deposit corridors in parallel.

Real-time tracking

Status from the moment a transfer starts to the moment it lands, with delivery confirmation closing the loop.

Transparent guaranteed rates

Senders see the guaranteed rate and the recipient amount up front, with daily rate alerts on saved corridors.

Frequently Asked Questions

We built the mobile application and supporting backend, covering multi-corridor remittance flow, mobile money provider integration, real-time tracking and recipient management. The app moves money from Europe to multiple African countries via bank deposits and mobile money.

The app and front end are built on FlutterFlow. The backend is built on Xano. This is a deliberately lean stack chosen for speed-to-launch and ongoing iteration without compromising on data model integrity.

The app currently supports transfers to Cameroon, Rwanda, Zambia, Ethiopia and Ghana, with integrations into mobile money providers including M-Pesa, EcoCash and MTN, plus bank deposit corridors. Each corridor has its own integration profile and regulatory considerations.

Senders see real-time status updates from the moment they initiate a transfer to the moment it lands with the recipient. Delivery confirmation notifications close the loop so the sender does not have to message the recipient to know the money arrived.

FlutterFlow compresses time-to-launch for a mobile-first product where iteration speed matters more than custom UI engineering. For a fintech category where the product needs to be in market quickly and adjusted often, FlutterFlow with a clean Xano backend is the right trade. The architectural discipline is in the API layer, not the UI tooling.

The app surfaces guaranteed exchange rates at the point of transfer, with daily rate alerts available for senders tracking specific corridors. The pricing model is transparent at the sender's surface.
