Key Takeaways

A global member-based professional learning organisation came to Unico Connect to bring their accumulated expert knowledge into a modern, AI-enabled learning experience. We built a platform that combines expert-compiled content with AI-powered tutoring, structured courses, quizzes and a presentation builder, helping learners engage with the material far more effectively than print-based learning allowed.

The platform was delivered as an MVP in four months and has since become the organisation’s primary learning surface, reaching 25,000+ members with engagement up 15 percent.

The Challenge

The client is a global member-based organisation that has spent decades building a body of expert-compiled knowledge in its professional field. The knowledge is genuinely valuable to its members, and the organisation’s reputation rests in significant part on the quality and depth of the content it produces. The problem the team was wrestling with was that this content was packaged for a different era — structured around print-based reference works and long-form documents — while the way learners actually engage with knowledge today is very different.

Members were telling the organisation, in surveys and direct feedback, that the content was hard to navigate, that finding the right material for a specific learning moment was slow, and that the format did not fit how they wanted to learn. Younger members in particular had expectations shaped by modern learning platforms — interactive content, adaptive paths, AI assistance — and the print-first model was struggling to keep pace. The organisation faced a genuine risk of the content losing relevance not because it was wrong, but because it was packaged for a context that no longer matched the learners’ reality.

01Print-era content, modern learners
02Slow to find the right material
03AI grounded in curated content, not free-roaming
04Not-for-profit cost-to-launch

What the team realised was that the platform they needed had to do three things together: make the content accessible digitally, present it through interactive learning surfaces (courses, quizzes, presentation tools), and layer AI on top so learners could converse with the material rather than just read it — all delivered at a cost-to-launch that fit a learning-led mission rather than a venture-funded budget.

Our Approach

Designing the learning surfaces and AI tutor

We engaged as a product partner, structured to deliver an MVP in four months that the organisation could put in front of members and learn from. The first phase was understanding the content itself — how it was structured, how learners used it, what the editorial team needed to maintain it. Many AI-in-education engagements get the foundation wrong by treating content as raw material for the AI rather than as a curated artefact the AI should respect.

Key decisions:

01.

Retrieval-augmented AI grounded in expert content

The AI tutor constructs answers from the client’s expert-compiled material rather than generating freely — the grounding is what made it credible to the editorial team.

02.

Learning surfaces native to their purpose

Courses for progression, quizzes for retention, a presentation builder for peer teaching and an AI tutor for guided exploration — each designed for its job, not a generic LMS template.

03.

A tight, four-month MVP

Enough depth to be useful without trying to cover every feature on day one, so the platform could reach real learners quickly and adjust on actual usage.

The solution we built

A new-age learning system that combines expert-compiled content with AI-powered tutoring, courses, quizzes and presentation tools. The experience starts on a dashboard showing current courses, recommended content based on progress and quick access to the AI tutor, with course material structured progressively and quizzes interspersed to reinforce learning rather than just test it.

Retrieval-augmented AI tutor

Learners ask questions in natural language; the AI answers from the expert-compiled material and surfaces the relevant source directly rather than paraphrasing it.

Structured courses and quizzes

Progressive modules with quizzes interspersed for retention and self-assessment, so learning compounds instead of being a one-off read.

Presentation builder

Learners assemble teaching materials from the platform’s content, turning it from a personal learning tool into a knowledge-distribution tool for peer teaching.

Built for a global membership

Consistent content shared across every surface, performing across geographies and devices, with an architecture built to keep growing.

Frequently Asked Questions

We built a new-age learning platform that combines expert-compiled content with AI-powered tutoring, structured courses, quizzes and a presentation builder. The platform reaches the organisation’s global member base and replaces the prior print-led learning experience.

The AI is a retrieval-augmented system grounded in the organisation’s expert-compiled content. When learners ask questions, the AI constructs responses from the source material rather than generating freely. This is what makes the AI useful for professional learning where credibility matters.

Because the value of the content depends on it being trustworthy and aligned with the organisation’s curated knowledge. A generic LLM might paraphrase incorrectly or introduce material the editorial team did not approve. Retrieval-augmented grounding keeps the AI anchored in the right source.

A learning surface that lets members assemble teaching materials from the platform’s content. For member-based organisations where peer learning is significant, this turns the platform from a personal tool into a knowledge-distribution tool.

The MVP was delivered in four months. The architecture is built to extend as the content library grows and as the AI layer matures.

The platform is built to perform across geographies and devices, with the content and AI surfaces accessible to members wherever they are. The architecture scales as the membership and the content library grow.

Yes. AI-driven learning and EdTech are an established part of our portfolio. The engagement covers retrieval-augmented AI design, interactive learning surfaces and platform architecture for global member-based organisations.

Yes. The platform is the organisation’s primary learning surface and is in active use across its global membership.
