Built a digital wealth onboarding platform for high-net-worth clients that brings KYC, portfolio review and document workflows into a single guided experience
A web platform on Laravel and React, hosted on AWS, that digitises the onboarding journey for HNI clients of a wealth management firm — covering KYC, document collection, portfolio review and the operational handoff into the firm’s wealth management workflows.

Key Takeaways
A wealth management firm serving high-net-worth individuals came to Unico Connect to replace its paper-and-courier onboarding workflow with a digital platform that respected the expectations of HNI clients while satisfying the regulatory and operational requirements of wealth management.
We built the platform on Laravel and React, hosted on AWS, covering KYC, document collection, portfolio review and the operational handoff into wealth management. Onboarding now runs in hours rather than days, with the audit trail and operational visibility that regulated wealth management requires.

The Challenge
The client operates as a wealth management firm serving high-net-worth individuals — a category where the expectation on every interaction is shaped by what clients receive from their other financial relationships. HNI clients are time-poor and trust-sensitive. They expect the firm to be respectful of their time, accurate with their documents, and consistent with the experience they get from their bankers and family offices. The firm came to Unico Connect with the recognition that their existing process was not meeting that bar.
The pre-platform reality was a paper-and-courier workflow: physical document collection, manual KYC processing, multiple touchpoints to chase missing information, and a back office that ran on email threads and shared folders. End-to-end onboarding could take days, with visible friction at each handoff and relationship managers spending time on coordination rather than the relationship itself. For a category where the relationship is the product, this was operational drag the firm could no longer afford.
The Indian wealth management regulatory environment adds specific complexity — formal KYC requirements, document validation rules, and a clean transfer of the client’s profile, holdings and risk position into the firm’s operational systems. The platform could not just digitise the existing workflow; it had to satisfy the regulatory discipline while improving the experience and reducing the operational cost per onboarding to a level that would let the firm scale.
Our Approach

We engaged as a product partner, structured around three concurrent priorities: the client-facing experience, the operational workflow for the firm’s team, and the regulatory and integration disciplines that wealth management requires. The first phase was understanding the actual onboarding journey — the documents, the KYC steps, the validation logic, the handoff to wealth management — because a platform built against a generic financial template would not have served this client base.
Key decisions:
Laravel + React on AWS
Laravel for regulatory-grade discipline and a flexible HNI profile model, React for the experience quality the client base expects, AWS for the security, scaling and compliance baseline.
HNI experience by design
Premium and uncluttered, smooth document collection across mobile and desktop, clearly guided KYC steps, and status visibility throughout — deliberate choices, not a generic template.
Regulatory audit posture from the start
KYC built against the firm’s formal requirements, with document validation, identity verification and a per-record audit trail carried in the data model rather than reconstructed later.
The solution we built
A digital onboarding system covering the full HNI client journey from initial engagement to active wealth management. The journey starts on a guided flow through identity verification, document collection, KYC submission and the portfolio context the firm needs — each step clearly framed so the client always knows what they have provided and what happens next.
Guided onboarding flow
Identity verification, document collection, KYC submission and portfolio context, each clearly framed with status visibility throughout the journey.
Validated document collection
Documents are validated at upload rather than in a later back-office review, so clients resolve issues immediately instead of learning about them days later.
End-to-end KYC
Structured data capture validated against regulatory requirements, with HNI-grade identity verification and the audit artefacts the compliance team needs.
Back-office workflow
Operational dashboards for relationship managers, compliance and wealth management — replacing email threads and shared folders, with a clean handoff at completion.
