Overview
Unico Connect is seeking a QA Automation Engineer to build and maintain automated test suites for client web, mobile, and API products. The role spans Playwright or Cypress for web, Appium or Detox for mobile, and the CI/CD integration that runs tests at every pull request. The position is well suited to early-career automation engineers with strong TypeScript or Python fundamentals.
Key Responsibilities
- Build end-to-end test suites with Playwright or Cypress for web products
- Build API test suites with Postman, REST Assured, or pytest
- Build mobile test suites with Appium, Detox, or Maestro
- Integrate tests into GitHub Actions or Cloud Build CI pipelines
- Maintain test data factories, page objects, and stable selectors
- Triage flaky tests; debug failures using traces, videos, and screenshots
- Pair with senior automation engineers on framework architecture
- Maintain technical documentation for test frameworks and patterns
- Participate in release sign-off through automated regression runs
- Contribute to shared automation libraries and test data factories
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 1-3 years of QA automation
- Strong JavaScript or TypeScript, or Python
- Hands-on with at least 1 of Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium
- Familiar with API testing tools (Postman, REST Assured)
- Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines
- Capacity to debug flaky tests using traces and videos
- Solid understanding of HTTP and REST fundamentals
- Excellent written communication for test framework documentation
- Comfort with Git, GitHub Actions, and code review
Preferred Qualifications
- Mobile automation (Appium, Detox, Maestro)
- Performance testing (k6, JMeter)
- Visual regression (Percy, Chromatic)
- Open-source contributions to test frameworks
- Contract testing with Pact
AI Tools Proficiency
Production engineering at Unico Connect assumes AI tools form part of the daily workflow rather than an experimental augmentation. For this role specifically:
- Cursor or Claude Code for test code authoring
- AI test generation from specifications (LLM-from-spec workflows)
- AI flaky-test detection and triage
- GitHub Copilot for inline test suggestions
