Overview

Unico Connect is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to architect and operate the cloud platform across enterprise client engagements on GCP and AWS, with Azure for clients on that stack. The role owns Kubernetes platform design, cloud migrations, observability, and the SRE practices that keep client products reliable at scale. The position is well suited to senior DevOps engineers with hands-on production experience across multiple clouds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect multi-region cloud infrastructure on GCP and AWS at production scale
  • Lead Kubernetes platform design across GKE, EKS, and AKS including service mesh, autoscaling, and multi-tenancy
  • Design load balancing, CDN, and traffic management (GCP Cloud Load Balancing, AWS ALB and CloudFront)
  • Lead cloud migrations including on-prem to cloud, cross-cloud, and RDS or Cloud SQL migrations
  • Design RDS and Cloud SQL high-availability setups, S3 and GCS data lake patterns, and compute fleet management
  • Own the observability platform including SLOs, error budgets, alerting, and on-call runbooks
  • Mentor 2-3 DevOps engineers; conduct architecture reviews and code reviews on infrastructure code
  • Govern cloud security posture including IAM, secrets management, and compliance frameworks
  • Lead cost-optimisation initiatives including spot instance usage, autoscaling tuning, and rightsizing
  • Author internal DevOps playbooks and onboarding documentation
  • Calibrate the DevOps interview bar and conduct senior interview loops

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering
  • Deep expertise across both GCP and AWS at production scale
  • Kubernetes production experience (GKE, EKS) including operators and Helm
  • Strong Terraform, Pulumi, or CDK for infrastructure as code
  • Hands-on with service mesh (Istio, Linkerd) or API gateways (Kong, Apigee)
  • Production experience with at least 1 of PostgreSQL high availability on RDS or Cloud SQL, or large-scale S3 or GCS data pipelines
  • Excellent written communication for design documents and incident post-mortems
  • Capacity to lead cloud migrations at six-figure annual spend
  • Strong fundamentals in observability concepts including SLOs, error budgets, and tracing
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Azure production experience for clients on that stack
  • FinOps or cloud cost optimisation track record
  • Security certifications and compliance implementation (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA)
  • Open-source contributions to infrastructure projects
  • Conference talks or technical writing on cloud platforms

AI Tools Proficiency

Production engineering at Unico Connect assumes AI tools form part of the daily workflow rather than an experimental augmentation. For this role specifically:

  • Cursor or Claude Code as the default integrated development environment
  • AI-augmented observability (Grafana AI, Datadog Bits, Honeycomb AI)
  • Claude or ChatGPT for runbook generation and post-mortem drafting
  • Perplexity for cloud architecture research
