Overview
Unico Connect is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to turn client data into measurable business outcomes. The role spans experimentation design, predictive modelling, productionised analytics, and storytelling that lands with executives. The position is well suited to senior data scientists who balance statistical rigour with the engineering instincts needed to ship models to production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end data science projects from problem framing through to production deployment
- Build forecasting, classification, segmentation, and ranking models for client products
- Design and analyse A/B experiments with appropriate statistical rigour
- Build executive dashboards and storytelling decks for non-technical stakeholders
- Partner with AI Engineers and MLOps on productionising models and ongoing monitoring
- Set up data quality checks, feature monitoring, and re-training pipelines
- Mentor 1-2 junior data analysts or scientists on methodology and stakeholder communication
- Maintain reproducible analysis notebooks and version-controlled data pipelines
- Run weekly experiment reviews and quarterly model performance retrospectives
- Communicate model assumptions, limitations, and confidence intervals clearly to product stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field
- 5+ years of data science with at least 1 model deployed in production
- Strong Python (pandas, scikit-learn, NumPy) and SQL
- Solid statistics fundamentals including hypothesis testing, regression, and causal inference
- Hands-on with at least 1 of PyTorch, TensorFlow, or XGBoost / LightGBM
- Experience with cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift)
- Strong communication skills for translating technical findings to non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated track record running experiments at scale
- Comfort owning end-to-end data pipelines from ingestion through to dashboards
- Working knowledge of orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep learning experience for tabular or time-series data
- NLP and embedding-based features
- Causal inference including uplift modelling and difference-in-differences
- Hands-on with feature stores (Feast, Hopsworks)
- Public writing or conference talks on applied data science
AI Tools Proficiency
Production engineering at Unico Connect assumes AI tools form part of the daily workflow rather than an experimental augmentation. For this role specifically:
- Claude or GPT for code review, statistical reasoning, and methodology validation
- Cursor for notebook and SQL work
- Hex or Deepnote AI features for collaborative analysis
- AI-assisted text-to-SQL for exploratory queries
